Enbridge’s Fueling Futures Program Empowers STEM Learning at Nanan Academy

October 4, 2025 – Regina, Saskatchewan

Enbridge’s “Fueling Futures” program has provided funding to support Nanan Academy’s STEM Youth Program, enabling a group of Grade 6 students from Mother Teresa Middle School to participate in the year-long initiative. The program, held every Saturday at the Saskatchewan Science Centre, introduces students to coding, robotics, and 3D printing, while building essential skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, problem-solving, and digital literacy.

On October 4, 2025, Shane Quewezance, Community and Indigenous Engagement Advisor with Enbridge, and Terri Cote, Principal of Mother Teresa Middle School, visited the class to meet the students and see their progress firsthand.

Students Reflecting on Their Education

“Students who are both interested and adept in science, math, and technology will have advanced skills that will open doors to the jobs of the future with the enriched programming from Nanan Academy,” said Terri Cote, Principal of Mother Teresa Middle School. “This opportunity fits well with the College and Careers pillar of our programming and preparing students for the future.”

Students shared their enthusiasm for the program, with one saying, “We learn new things every class. We learn to code and create 3D models.” Another remarked, “The class is better than sitting at home scrolling through TikTok,” while others enjoyed integrating art with technology and collaborating with friends.

Students Collaborating on Projects

The Fueling Futures grant from Enbridge, along with a donation of ten laptops, helps Nanan Academy expand access to STEM education for youth in the community. The initiative aligns with Enbridge’s commitment to supporting education and community development, as featured in their earlier story, Fueling Futures supports First Nation family STEM learning in Regina and Cowessess.

Nanan Academy continues to work with Cowessess First Nation and Piapot First Nation to foster the next generation of leaders. The academy’s vision is to create a world where every learner, at any stage of life, has the skills, confidence, and cultural awareness to thrive in a rapidly changing future. Through hands-on STEM learning and cultural integration, Nanan Academy empowers learners to build creativity, confidence, and competence for the future of work.
