Nanan Academy at Saskatchewan Retro GameCon
On September 12 and 13, 2026, Saskatchewan Retro GameCon was held at the Temple Gardens Centre in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada. Retro GameCon is a celebration of retro video games and pop culture. The event brings together gamers, collectors, artists, cosplayers, and vendors.
The event had 130 vendors who sold video games, consoles, collectibles, artwork, 3D-printed items, clothing, food, and more. The event also included special guests, gaming tournaments, and many opportunities for visitors to play games.

Special Guests
There were three media guests at this year’s event:
Tonia Laird is a Saskatchewan writer who has worked on games such as Dragon Age 2 and Dragon Age: Inquisition.
Brian F. Colin is the creator of arcade games such as Rampage, General Chaos, and Xenophobe.
J.S. Gilbert is a voice actor who has worked on more than 400 games. His work includes Twisted Metal, Soulcalibur, Doom, and League of Legends.

Gaming Tournaments
Gaming tournaments were a major part of the Retro GameCon. The games included Mortal Kombat 2, NBA Jam, Sonic the Hedgehog, Halo 3, Twisted Metal Black, Wii Sports Resort, Dr. Mario, Rock Band, and Rampage World Tour. The tournaments gave visitors a chance to compete while playing games from different generations.
Nanan Academy Booth
Nanan Academy had a popular booth with PC retro games, T-shirt sales, crochet art, and a robot dog. There were PCs set up running Doom 1, Doom 2, and King’s Quest 1 that visitors were able to play.
The booth also featured Robo Run, a 2D platformer game developed by Eric Nanan. Robo Run was created with the Godot Game Engine. As part of Nanan Academy’s curriculum, students learn to develop games using Scratch, Godot, and Unreal Engine.

Nanan Academy also sold print-on-demand T-shirts. There were four original designs created by Nanan Academy teacher, Thayne Winder. Customers chose a design, and it was printed on a shirt using the Cricut Explore 5. Crochet art created by Emily Nanan was also available for sale at the booth.
The Unitree Go2 Air robot dog walked around the venue and attracted a lot of attention. The robot dog performed tricks and dance moves.

Saskatchewan Retro GameCon brought back the nostalgia of classic gaming. It was a great celebration of video games, technology, and pop culture.
