Welcoming 2026 with STEM and Community at ‘Noon Year’s Eve’

On December 31, 2025, families gathered at the Saskatchewan Science Centre for Noon Year’s Eve, an exciting event that offered hands-on activities and early New Year celebration. From 10:00am to 3:00pm, families explored interactive exhibits and participated in a noon countdown to welcome 2026.

Local partners and vendors provided activities for families:

  • Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame, with sports-themed challenges
  • Nanan Academy, with coding and robotics activities
  • Caliber Coffee Roasters, offering warm drinks and refreshments
  • Regina Public Library, with learning activities
  • Curl Regina, providing floor games for active play
  • Melcher Studios VR, showcasing virtual reality experiences

Each vendor added a unique element to the event, helping make Noon Year’s Eve enjoyable, diverse, and fun for all ages.

Nanan Academy was proud to host an interactive booth in the Science Centre’s maker space. Our goal was to give learners of all ages first-hand experience with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) concepts through fun, hands-on activities. Our stations included the following:

  • mBot programming to introduce robotics and coding
  • Ozobots for basic coding with colour commands
  • Minecraft: Education Edition for collaborative STEM challenges
  • Scratch programming to design games and animations
  • Snap Circuits to explore electronics and circuitry

One of the highlights of the day was a live demonstration by Nanan Academy of the Unitree Go2 Air robot dog, which created excitement and opened discussions about real-world robotics.

Throughout the day, our Assistant Teacher and Youth Program Co-Founder, Emily Nanan, encouraged learners as they tried new technologies and tackled challenges. “When kids try new things and don’t give up, they start to believe they can do it,” Emily shared.
