Young Minds, Big Ideas: Students at Nanan Academy Victoria Use AI to Bring Apps to Life
Empowering 10–14 Year Olds to Build Real-World Projects With Artificial Intelligence
At Nanan STEM Academy’s Victoria location, the future is being shaped by some of its youngest minds. Students aged 10 to 14 are not only learning how technology works—they’re using it to build their own digital products from the ground up. With the help of AI, these students are exploring every step of the app development process—from ideation and design to development, launch, and marketing.

This hands-on learning environment is a bold departure from the traditional model of skill-by-skill education. Instead of waiting years to develop coding, design, or business acumen, students are using AI tools as creative partners to rapidly prototype and build functional applications.
From a digital skateboard game interface to a goal-setting rewards app, students are designing real projects that reflect their interests, ideas, and creativity. They’re learning not only how to use AI tools, but also when and why to use them—building critical thinking and digital fluency along the way.

Equally important, the program emphasized communication and feedback skills. Throughout the course, students practiced presenting their ideas to the class and participated in structured feedback sessions—both giving and receiving constructive input. This peer-to-peer exchange helped refine their projects and build confidence in articulating their vision.
To cap off the experience, students presented their apps-in-progress to an audience of parents. The final showcase was a proud moment for all, as families witnessed firsthand the creativity, collaboration, and technical growth achieved in just four weeks. Many parents expressed genuine amazement at what the students had accomplished in such a short time.

By using AI to support tasks like interface design, content creation, and coding, students were freed to focus on why their app matters and how it should function—developing a product mindset and entrepreneurial outlook far beyond their years.
This program is more than a tech lesson—it’s a full-cycle immersion in innovation. And as the students continue building their ideas into working products, one thing is clear: at Nanan Academy, the future isn’t being taught—it’s being built.
