On September 23, 2023, the Saskatchewan Science Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan, held an inspiring and empowering event: “Girls Night Out: A Go! Code: Girls Event.” Aimed at girls aged 11 to 16, this event sought to ignite a passion for coding, science, and technology while showcasing the immense potential within the female tech community. With three accomplished women in technology as keynote speakers and engaging booths hosted by organizations like Nanan STEM Academy, this event was a great success.

The event kicked off with three accomplished women in technology who took the stage as keynote speakers. Paige Sandvold, Tori Sambrook, and Taylor Fox shared their inspiring journeys, highlighting the limitless possibilities in the tech world for female youth.

One of the highlights of the event was the diverse range of interactive booths that allowed the participants to get hands-on experience in coding, science, and technology. There were four booths hosted by Direct West, University of Regina EYES, Saskatchewan Science Centre ‘Go! Code,’ and Nanan STEM Academy.

At the Nanan STEM Academy booth, girls had the opportunity to dive into the world of coding by working with the mBot, a programmable robot. Additionally, the Academy introduced participants to the educational wonders of Minecraft Education. Girls were able to explore a virtual world where they could collaborate, learn, and create, all while gaining valuable skills for success.

“Girls Night Out: A Go! Code: Girls Event” was a crucial step in fostering the next generation of female tech leaders. The event instilled a sense of empowerment and curiosity in the girls who attended.
